Microchip partners with KIOXIA America to test 24G SAS end-to-end storage interoperability

     Microchip Technology and KIOXIA America, Inc., announced the successful completion of the industry's first 24G SAS end-to-end storage interoperability test. The industry-standard 24G SAS infrastructure delivers improved performance, security, and reliability to data center, cloud, hyperscale, and enterprise server/storage customers, while retaining existing investments in SAS infrastructure.

     This interoperability test demonstrates that Microchip's industry-leading 24G SAS product suite and KIOXIA 24G SAS solid-state drives (SSDS) can work together as part of a next-generation storage solution. Microchip's 24G SAS test products include SmartROC 3200 PCIe® Gen 4 tri-mode RAID On Chip (ROC) controllers, SmartIOC 2200 input/Output controllers (IOC), and SXP 24G SAS extenders. These proven components can be used to deploy new servers and storage systems, improving system performance while maintaining backward compatibility with existing infrastructure.

     The 24G SAS (SAS-4/SPL-5) standard, created to complement the latest PCIe Gen 4 data center input/output (I/O) specification, doubles the storage interconnect bandwidth of the previous SAS standard, eliminates CPU host interface bottlenecks, and enables more efficient use of old and new storage infrastructures. 24G SAS has powerful forward error correction (FEC) capabilities to support a wide range of enterprise-class server/storage use cases while minimizing system costs.
