Microchip releases version 2.3 TimeProvider 4100 master clock timing and synchronization systems that protect critical infrastructure networks

     Infrastructure communications networks, including 5G mobile, utilities, cable, transportation, defense, and data centers, need to acquire and maintain precise timing signals from GPS or other global satellite systems. These networks are required to provide redundant backup systems when GNSS signals are not available. In order to meet this requirement, Microchip (Microchip Technology Company) recently launched version 2.3 TimeProvider 4100 accurate timing master clock product using the latest IEEE 1588 v2.1 safety standard in the industry, which not only protects the timing system but also provides higher deployment flexibility and scalability.

     Microchip's TimeProvider 4100 master clock, version 2.3, introduces an ultra-resilient multi-client Exact Time Protocol (PTP) optional license that provides customers with connections to up to three other master clocks in the carrier's network. This function serves as a backup of time and phase inputs. This new feature features a majority voting mechanism that complies with the latest IEEE 1588 2.1 standard to select the best input for Auxiliary Partial Time Support (APTS) backup protection.

     In addition, version 2.3 TimeProvider 4100 master clock supports two PTP server profiles per Ethernet port, providing greater deployment flexibility. Customers can now optimize the use of these ports without additional hardware investment. Version 2.3 of the TimeProvider master clock also allows the use of a PTP server, PTP client, and in-band management on one port.
