Microchip's SAM R30 ultra-low power MCU features 802.15.4 radio frequencies for Internet of Things applications

     The Microchip SAM R30 device is an ultra-low power microcontroller equipped with an IEEE 802.15.4-compatible radio. Vehicle-mounted radios are rated at 780 MHz in China, 868 MHz in Europe, and 915 MHz in North America. Powered by a 32-bit ARM Cortex-M0+ processor, it offers 256 KB of flash memory and 40 KB of SRAM (with 8kb battery support) in packages as small as 5 mm x 5 mm QFN32.

     Power domain gating, sleepwalking, and ultra-low power peripherals are some of the advanced power management technologies that make them suitable for very low power, long battery life sensor applications. The SAM R30 typically consumes less than 500 nA when powered by a 1.8V battery, serial communication, real-time counter, or GPIO wake up.

     BPSK and O-QPSK modulation is supported by an on-board sub-GHz radio that delivers TX power of up to 11 dBm with an RX sensitivity of -110 dBm. Highly configurable peripherals include up to five I(2)C, SPI, and UART interfaces, including one in the low-power domain, eight 12-bit ADC channels, and 48 capacitive touch channels with proximity sensing.
