Microchip's new motion module makes motion monitoring easier

     Microchip Technology, the World's leading provider of integrated microcontroller, mixed-signal, emulator and flash patented solutions, announced the MM7150 motion module at Embedded World in Germany. The module integrates Microchip's SSC7150 motion coprocessor with a 9-axis sensor containing an accelerometer, magnetometer, and gyroscope in a compact, easy-to-use package. With a simple I2C™ connection to most MCUS/MPUs, various embedded/Internet of Things (IoT) applications can easily take advantage of the advanced motion and position data collected by the module.

     The motion module includes Microchip SSC7150 motion coprocessors preprogrammed with complex sensor fusion algorithms that intelligently filter, compensate, and integrate raw sensor data to provide highly accurate position and orientation information. The small motion module can be self-calibrated during operation using data provided by pre-filled sensors (Bosch BMC150(six-axis digital compass) and BMG160(three-axis gyroscope)). Due to the single-sided design of the MM7150 motion module, it can be easily welded during manufacturing.

     In addition, Microchip offers the MM7150 PICtail Plus subboard to help designers easily develop motion applications for a variety of products. The MM7150 motion module has a wide range of applications for embedded (such as portable devices and robotics), industrial (such as commercial trucks, industrial automation, patient tracking and smart farming) and consumer electronics markets (such as Internet of Things (IoT), remote control, gaming devices, toys and wearables).
