Micron announces the new Micron 5210 ION enterprise-class SATA SSD

     Micron Technology, a leading provider of memory and storage solutions, has announced the 5210 ION enterprise-class SATA solid-state Drive (SSD) with new capacity and capabilities, cementing its leadership in QLC technology volume production. As the world's first QLC SSD, the Micron 5210 is based on the company's advanced QLC NAND technology and is rapidly replacing traditional mechanical hard drives (HDDS).

     Our customers benefit from replacing HDDS with NAND flash to handle performance-sensitive workloads such as SQL and NoSQL databases, big data and analytics, object storage, and vSAN capacity tiers. The Micron 5210 is rapidly replacing 10K HDDS. Compared to the largest 10K RPM HDD, the Micron 5210 offers 175 times faster random reads, 30 times faster random writes, and up to 2 times higher sequential throughput. 3x energy efficiency improvement [based on 1.92TB Micron 5210 SSD (70,000 IOPS) and SNIA PTSe IOPS industry standard test results of 2.4TB 10K hybrid HDD (approximately 400 IOPS) in published data manuals. Actual performance may vary slightly. Energy efficiency comparisons are based on the run-time average read speed values in the data table] and price competitiveness is impressive.

     Adoption by original equipment Manufacturers (Oems) is also accelerating the industry's transition from general-purpose server workloads from HDDS to QLC SSDS to improve performance, reliability and power efficiency.
