Micron introduces new NVMe™ SSDS for performance and Economy clients

Micron Technology, a leading provider of memory and storage solutions, has announced new client-side solid-state drives (SSDS) that bring NVME-level performance to client-side computing applications by improving the traditional design architecture of laptops, workstations and other portable devices to improve battery life, performance and productivity.

     Micron Technology, a leading provider of memory and storage solutions, has announced new client-side solid-state drives (SSDS) that bring NVME-level performance to client-side computing applications by improving the traditional design architecture of laptops, workstations and other portable devices to improve battery life, performance and productivity. The Micron 2300 SSD delivers the storage performance and capacity required for compute-intensive applications in a compact form element while meeting the needs of modern mobile device users for low power consumption.

 

     The Micron 2210 QLC SSD is the first to integrate NVMe performance and low-cost four-layer unit (QLC) NAND technology into an SSD, giving it the fast throughput of NVMe and the leading edge of Micron QLC technology, while offering a price comparable to mechanical hard drives. With the performance of flash memory, it also consumes 15 times less power than a mechanical hard drive [compared to a mobile mechanical hard drive with the same capacity]. 

 

     Roger Peene, vice president of marketing for Micron's Storage Products group, said: "90% of client platforms will adopt NVMe SSDS within the next year, and the market is rapidly bifurcating into two segments: mainstream and cost-effective. The Micron 2300 and 2210 new client SSDS are optimized for these two segments, with the 2300 delivering superior performance to users and the 2210 offering a competitive price/performance ratio with Micron's leading QLC NAND technology."

 

     Both new Micron SSDS use Micron's innovative 96-layer 3D NAND technology to achieve lower power consumption, better capacity and smaller form factor. This allows for more flexibility in client product design [the 256GB Micron 2300 SSD uses 64-layer 3D NAND technology.] . The new product also supports TCG Opal 2.0 and TCG Pyrite 2.0, enhancing client security features and data protection capabilities.
