Microsemi and ST collaborate to develop world-class iot solutions for innovative home automation solutions

     Microsemi Corporation has announced a partnership with STMicroelectronics to develop a new electric vehicle charger solution using Microsemi's innovative PLC line drivers. This is one of several solutions designed for system architects and designers developing iot solutions. Tatung's Electric Vehicle Power Supply Equipment (MEVSE) module is the first result of this collaboration, which features vehicle-to-grid Communication (V2G) capabilities and supports a wide range of network and application protocols. Using Microsemi Le87501 PLC line drivers and ST's ST2100 STreamPlug system-on-chip (SoC) devices, as well as a new proprietary digital power controller based on state machine event drivers (SMED) with OpenV2G software stack support.

     The Microsemi Corporation Le87501 PLC driver is based on Microsemi Corporation's proprietary high-speed, high-voltage two-stage process technology, which enables significant performance improvements and cost savings compared to the technology in use today. Microsemi Corporation's industry-leading devices have been selected by ST as the reference design for its newly released ST2100 STreamPlug SoC product for applications requiring high integration and high computing performance, such as customer home area network (HAN), industrial and smart grid applications.

     This is the first collaboration between Microsemi and ST for iot applications. According to market research firm IDC, global revenues generated by spending on iot technologies and services will reach $8.9 trillion by 2020, with a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 7.9%. Mico SEMi and ST achieve even more by using MICo Semi's Timberwolf audio processors for command and control and audio sensing. The Timberwolf DSP platform takes advantage of Microsemi's extensive know-how and leadership in voice communications to enter emerging, hands-free applications that require clear, noise-free and echo-free speech.

     St's ST2100 STreamPlug is the world's first smart gateway SoC device that combines a high-performance processing subsystem, power line communication (PLC), security, and peripheral capabilities. Support for hybrid networks using popular wired and wireless standards such as HomePlug AV and HomePlug Green PHY. The STreamPlug SoC also integrates a PLC modem and analog front end.
