MikroElektronika offers an add-on plate with ams TCS3771 color sensor

     The MikroElektronika MIKROE-2103 Color 3 click is a mikroBUS plug-in board with ams TCS3771 color sensor. Also known as an optical to digital converter and narrow beam infrared LED, the TCS3771 can also be used as a proximity sensor. Integrated circuits have good performance in all kinds of lighting conditions. For example, it can cover different attenuation materials. As a kind of near range sensor, it has a large dynamic working range. It can be used for short distance measurements behind dark glass or configured for long distance measurements; For example, detecting the presence of a person in front of a monitor or laptop.

     The MIKROE-2103 board is designed to use only a 3.3V power supply. The TCS3771 has an internal state machine that can place the device in a low power mode between continuous RGBC and adjacent measurements to save additional power consumption. The TCS3771 is also fast enough to give proximity information at a high repetition rate. This makes it useful for close-up detection of portable devices, such as phones near the ears of speakers. Color 3 click communicates with the target MCU through a mikroBUS I2C interface with additional functionality provided by INT pin.

     The ams TCS3771 provides red, green, blue, and clear (RGBC) light sensing and proximity detection. The sensor detects light intensity under various lighting conditions through various attenuating materials. The large dynamic range of the close-up detection feature allows for a wide range of applications, from the short range of a mobile phone to the long range of a TV, monitor or laptop. The sensor requires a voltage supply range of 2.7V to 3.6V and a current supply of 330μa at 3v. The TCS3771 operates from -30°C to +70°C with a small 6-SMD module.
