MikroElektronika's advanced air quality sensing solution uses the Sensirion SGP30 sensor

MikroElektronika MIKROE-2896 Air Quality 4 click is an advanced air quality sensing device, which combines a variety of metal oxide sensing elements on a chip to provide detailed information on air quality parameters. This click can output the reading of total volatile organic compounds (TVOC) value and CO (2) equivalent concentration in the indoor environment.

     The MikroElektronika MIKROE-2896 Air Quality 4 click is an advanced air quality sensing device that combines multiple metal oxide sensing elements on a single chip to provide detailed information on air quality parameters. This click outputs the total volatile Organic compound (TVOC) value reading and the CO(2) equivalent concentration reading for the indoor environment.

 

     In addition to these compensating properties, click can also output the original values of H(2) and ethanol in the air, which can be used to calculate the concentration of the gas relative to the reference concentration. Air Quality 4 Click the sensor used is actually a complete on chip sensor system with I(2)C interface, a temperature control microhot plate, and two compensated processing of indoor air quality signals. Produced using patented CMOSens technology, it provides very detailed information and robustness against air pollution.

 

     The sensor IC used in the MIKROE-2896 Air Quality 4 click is SGP30 from Sensirion, a multi-pixel gas sensor for indoor applications. The sensor is a system consisting of several metal oxide sensing elements on a chip (pixel) to measure and process readings of various gases in the air and is output in the form of two complementary air quality readings (TVOC) (ppb) and CO(2) equivalent signals (ppm).

 

     Conventional metal oxide (MOX) sensors have problems with decreased sensitivity and responsiveness after exposure to siloxane for a period of time. Siloxane is a particular compound that is usually present in the air and negatively affects MOX sensors. To overcome this problem, SGP30 sensors are manufactured with advanced MOXSens technology, which provides these sensors with unmatched robustness against siloxane contamination. This has led to unprecedented long-term stability and accuracy. SGP30 uses dynamic baseline compensation algorithms and calibration parameters to provide accurate readings of TVOC and CO(2)eq performance.

 

     These baseline values of the compensation algorithm can be stored externally and read back to the device with the appropriate I(2)C command, which can be used in the event of a power outage or restart. I(2)C initialization For the first 15 seconds after the execution of the command, the sensor is in the initialization phase, sensor measurements and baseline compensation data are collected, and fixed values of 400ppm CO(2)eq and 0 ppb TVOC are returned when the measurement command is attempted.

 

     These attributes make air quality 4 click the perfect solution for a variety of air conditioning systems, ventilation systems, and other iot applications that require accurate, detailed, and reliable air quality readings.
