     MikroElektronika's MIKROE-2274 Wi-Fi 5 click uses GainSpan's GS1500M, a fully 802.11b/g/n certified module, Provides a fast, easy, and cost effective way for Oems to implement leading Wi-Fi connectivity (802.11b/g/n) on their platforms. The module provides multiple serial UART or SPI interfaces, allowing connection to any embedded design using an 8/16/32 bit microcontroller with a simple command. The GS1500M is the ideal solution for Oems with limited or no Wi-Fi or RF expertise.

 

     The GS1500M solution dramatically reduces development time, removes the burden of testing and certification, and enables customers to focus on their core platform. The module supports Wi-Fi PHY rates of up to 72.2 Mbps and is fully compatible with 802.11b/g/n, meeting global regulatory requirements. The GS1500M also supports point-to-point networking, allowing Wi-Fi devices to connect to each other without an access point and easily transfer content anytime and anywhere.

 

     The GS1500M also supports peer-to-peer networking capabilities, allowing Wi-Fi devices to connect to each other without an access point to easily transfer content. Security features include support for WEP/WPA/WPA2, Adhoc, and WPS (Wi-Fi protection Settings). The module has a PCB tracking antenna. On the hardware side, the GS1500M module includes two ARM7 44 MHz chips (one for radio and the other for applications), as well as on-chip flash memory and SRAM. Data rates up to 921.6kbps can be achieved through the UART interface.

 

     The module remains in standby mode most of the time (7μA) and is only woken up when data is needed for transmission. In sleep mode, it only uses 8 mah. Wi-Fi 5 click is good for battery-powered applications because it has multiple power modes (standby, sleep, deep sleep)
