
Molex introduces multi-port Radio frequency (MPRF) coaxial wire-to-board solutions to provide printed circuit board (PCB) designers and test and measurement engineers with safe electrical connections for high vibration conditions. The MPRF solution features a robust single-housing design with dual latch to support the weight of the coaxial cable for secure and robust multi-port RF I/O connections. Compact connectors also meet space requirements to reduce the size of electronic devices in many industries, including telecommunications and networking, data communications and computing, medical, and aerospace and defense.
Darren Schauer, Product Manager at Molex, said: "The smaller the size of the connector, the more sensitive it is to environmental factors compared to similar products with larger volumes, especially in cases of high vibration, where the connector can move inside the housing, or completely detach, resulting in system failure. "Our MPRF connectors are designed to meet the miniaturization requirements of next-generation devices while providing an extremely durable solution that prevents misalignment of cables inside the reinforced housing."
The connector has a 3.75 mm pitch and can use a 2.10 mm diameter cable (RG-316), saving space for the printed circuit board. The rugged outer housing withstands a minimum of 500 insertions, while the 1.00mm contact wipe ensures contact engagement in extreme conditions. The 4, 6, and 8 port configurations allow for increased design flexibility, while the DC to 6 GHz frequency range supports a wide range of potential applications. The non-magnetic version has a relative dielectric constant close to 1.0 and an extremely high signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), making it suitable for medical imaging systems and aerospace applications.
