Molex Super Sabre power connector system

Molex introduces the Super Sabre power connector system for all high-current applications that require flexible wire-to-wire and wire-to-board configurations. Super Sabre power connectors can deliver 34.0 amps per blade and can withstand operating temperatures up to 125°C (USCAR-2, Class 3), especially for automotive and commercial vehicle applications, as well as home appliances, medical, data communications and industrial control.

     Michael Bean, global Product Manager at Molex, said: "The challenge for design engineers is that they need to meet higher and higher power requirements while the size of printed circuit boards is shrinking. The packaging options available within this tiny shell are extremely limited. In addition, the components in such systems must also be highly reliable and able to withstand harsh, high-temperature environments. "By using the proven and highly reliable Sabre™ connector multi-beam technology, the Super Sabre connector system can help solve these problems, delivering up to 34.0 amps per blade and withstanding operating temperatures up to 125°C."

 

     The Super Sabre power connector system is optimized for 10 to 12 AWG wires, can be used in wire-to-wire and wire-to-board configurations, and is compatible with lead-free wave soldering and reflow soldering processes. The use of silver-plated high conductivity alloy terminals minimizes abrasion. The flat blade terminal design features four independent electrical contacts to provide redundant secondary current paths for long-term performance and reliability. In addition, its terminal design provides a more reliable electrical connection than other terminal styles.

 

     The terminals are completely isolated on both sides, providing maximum protection against damage or short circuits. The blocking function and terminal positioning Assembly (TPA) function prevent terminal exit. The UL1977 and UL60950 "finger test" approved optional blades meet the safety requirements of many customer applications.
