Molex announces Miniaturized 2.2-5 RF connector systems and cable assemblies

     Molex, a global electronics solutions provider, has introduced a compact 2.2-5 RF connector system and cable assembly designed to provide both high frequency and low passive intermodulation (PIM) capabilities. Molex worked with the 2.2-5 Consortium to develop the 2.25 form factor by taking the mature 4.3-10 form factor and miniaturizing it. Molex's 2.2-5 RF connector is 53% smaller than the 4.3-10 connector and is capable of supporting frequencies up to 6 GHz.

     Darren Schauer, Product Manager at Molex, said: "In modern mobile telecommunications, the form factor of existing connectors is pushing the limits of power and space constraints. Network designers need more compact connectors while still achieving lower PIM. The 2.2-5 connector system and cable assembly are ideal for compact antennas, mobile communications and radio applications."

     Wireless and 5G network infrastructure requires coaxial jumpers to provide excellent electrical performance and robust environmental performance to withstand a variety of factors. Molex's 2.2-5 RF cable jumpers come pre-assembled before the factory and provide NEMA IP68 protection after insertion to protect the connector system from dust and moisture intrusion.

     Molex offers custom components with integrated 2.2-5 connectors, including a range of plug options for design flexibility, easy installation, and optimal electrical performance. The IP68-rated 2.2-5 system is equipped with an air dielectric interface for excellent bandwidth and low insertion losses in 5G networks and any application where space and signal capacity are critical.
