Molex introduces the hybrid stAK50h system for automotive connectivity for the first time

Molex recently announced the stAK50h non-sealed connectivity system, designed to provide both signal and Ethernet connectivity in automotive body electronics, safety and driver assistance, comfort and infotainment devices and modules.

     Scott Marceau, global Product Manager at Molex, said: "As the capabilities of today's vehicles continue to improve, so does the need for connectivity, increasing the complexity of in-vehicle electronics. "The new hybrid stAK50h connector system eliminates the need for manufacturers to provide two separate connectivity systems for signal and Ethernet and optimizes space and design flexibility."

 

     For Tier 1 automakers making design changes and launching new models, the USCAR-2-compliant stAK50h connection system can reduce validation time. This stackable connector design eliminates the need for costly custom tooling, engineering work and validation time typically required for multiple on-board equipment and module configurations.

 

     The unit-to-multiple stAK50h connector system integrates through-hole non-hermetically sealed connectors with hybrid connectors to meet industry standard space occupancy requirements for 0.50 mm, 1.20 mm and 2.80 mm size terminals widely used in automotive applications. The hybrid system offers receptacles with 12 to 56 circuits and can be used for applications ranging from low current signals (5.0 amps) to high power applications (30.0 amps).

 

     In the design of automobiles, if the terminal design and connector interface inside the vehicle are too complex, it is easy to cause pairing errors and connection failures. The joints and sockets of the stAK50h non-sealed connection system are colour-matched for quick identification and easy assembly. The Connector Positioning Assembly (CPA) latching function prevents the stAK50h connection system from accidentally disconnecting.
