NXP Semiconductor unveils a security chip designed specifically for Matter

     NXP Semiconductors further adds to the industry's broadest portfolio of Matter devices by announcing the launch of EdgeLock SE051H, a security chip designed specifically for the Matter. EdgeLock SE051H is an NFC-integrated single-chip solution designed to simplify secure access authentication for Matter devices, bringing a whole new smart home user experience -- automated advice, installation videos, and other content at the touch of an NFC-enabled phone.

     The Matter standard was designed by the Connectivity Standards Alliance (CSA) to address device interoperability challenges in smart home networks. Matter raises the bar for smart home security by requiring multiple features to protect smart home devices, including encryption key pairs, digital certificates, and other security-related hardware and firmware. The EdgeLock SE051H is optimized to support the above requirements, including algorithms and encryption functions required by Matter, enabling device manufacturers to easily integrate necessary security protection into terminal devices.

With the single-chip EdgeLock SE051H, developers can easily provide security for their Match-certified smart home devices, while the integrated NFC enhances the end user experience with Matter, allowing device manufacturers to differentiate themselves with great user experience."

     EdgeLock SE051H has obtained the EAL 6+ certification and supports the encryption calculation required by intelligent devices for Matter authentication. These include Matter device authentication and certification-based authentication using ECC cryptography and NIST P-256 curves, as well as the SPAKE2+ algorithm for password verification key exchange. To protect the Matter protocol, the chip is also equipped with key security features such as ECDSA, ECDH, and true random number generator. In addition, EdgeLock SE051H integrates NFC interface and four types of label functions.

     As a security requirement of the Matter, the device verification certificate can be used to verify the authenticity of the device, prove reliability, and establish an empirical connection to the larger Matter network. NXP is one of the first semiconductor manufacturers to be awarded Trusted Product Certification Authority status by the CSA, and its EdgeLock 2GO service provides a flexible platform for securely configuring iot devices. When used in conjunction with the EdgeLock SE051H, the EdgeLock 2GO enables the certificate to be pre-injected directly into the chip in wafer fabrication or securely delivered over the air over the air (OTA) offering end-to-end security to simplify supply chain management and comply with the Matter standard.
