NXP is actively promoting the standardization of in-vehicle Ethernet networks and bringing a new generation of products to market. The giant automakers have already begun to use this new Ethernet solution for their next generation of vehicles. NXP leverages its network technology and experience to deliver Ethernet speeds of up to 100 Mbps to leading automotive manufacturers.
The BMW Group was one of the first automakers to put Ethernet on the road. By founding and playing a leadership role in the OPEN Alliance SiG and establishing Ethernet in automobiles as a non-proprietary standard, NXP has made a significant contribution to helping pioneering manufacturers, including the BMW Group, achieve 100 Mbps Ethernet architectures. NXP's enhanced Ethernet portfolio is flexible and supports scalable platform concepts to meet the networking needs of the BMW Group and the automotive industry.
According to automotive Analytics firm Strategy Analytics, the total number of Ethernet sockets installed each year will exceed 500 million by 2023. The expansion of the jack means that automotive Ethernet will increasingly enter the mass-production entry-level product lines of automakers. The next generation of new in-vehicle network architectures will be based on Ethernet as the backbone, and the use of Ethernet links in infotainment and ADAS will increase significantly.
Alex Tan, Vice President and General manager of Automotive Ethernet Solutions at NXP, said: "This launch is an important milestone that supports the further implementation of our ambitious system-driven roadmap. "NXP is committed to bringing to market a wide range of innovative networking products, from standalone transceivers to highly integrated systems on chip, that are closely linked to NXP's advanced automotive portfolio."
