NXP launched a battery management chip with impedance monitoring function

     NXP announced the launch of its new battery management chip, DNB1101A. Designed for industrial energy storage applications, the chip integrates multiple battery parameters monitoring to provide battery management systems with in-depth information on the internal state of the battery, bringing ultimate battery safety, performance and value. DNB1101A has passed the performance verification and reliability certification, and achieved mass production, and has been applied in several industrial energy storage systems.

     DNB1101A provides multiple sensing functions for each individual cell or a group of cells in parallel, including voltage monitoring, temperature monitoring and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) monitoring. Through the differential daisy chain, the battery parameter information is transmitted to the battery pack controller. The first chip in the chain converts the standard SPI signal to the daisy chain differential signal, and vice versa. The chip supports ring communication architecture.

     The temperature sensor integrated on the DNB1101 A chip can be used for the temperature measurement of the electric core. This eliminates the need for external thermistors and their peripherals, which is conducive to optimizing the system BOM, and each logic cell has a temperature monitoring coverage, which is conducive to achieving better temperature consistency in the battery pack.

     Based on patented circuit technology, DNB1101A can measure electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) of batteries online in a wide frequency range. The EIS data of the battery can be further converted into in-depth information of the internal state of the battery, such as the risk of overheating, the degree of lithium precipitation, and the degree of aging. DNB1101A integrates the EIS functions on the chip to achieve online EIS monitoring, providing a new dimension of information for the battery system, and greatly empowering the battery management system to achieve battery safety prediction, thermal runaway early warning, aging status measurement and other applications, bringing extreme battery safety, performance and value.

     DNB1101A provides internal and external equalization. External equalization and EIS monitoring share a set of peripherals, while internal equalization does not require peripheral circuits. DNB1101A integrates rich diagnostic functions, supports battery overvoltage, undervoltage, over temperature, low temperature alarms, and chip related abnormal alarms.
