NXP Semiconductor automotive radar industry leader announced the first launch of a new 28nm RFCMOS radar single-chip family for next-generation ADAS and autonomous driving systems.

NXP Semiconductor announced the launch of the new 28nm RFCMOS radar single-chip family for next-generation ADAS and autonomous driving systems. The new SAF85xx single-chip family integrates NXP's high-performance radar sensing capabilities and processing technology to provide Tier 1 suppliers and Oems with increased flexibility to support short -, medium - and long-range radar applications to meet more challenging NCAP security requirements. NXP has been a technology leader for more than 15 years, and the introduction of the single-chip radar family further enrichis its portfolio of advanced radar products to further provide a safe environment for drivers and reduce accidents. DENSO Corporation, which specializes in leading-edge radar technology and is a major NXP customer, also chose to use these innovations.

NXP's new automotive radar SoC family includes a high-performance radar transceiver integrated with a multi-core radar processor built on NXP's S32R radar computing platform. Compared to NXP's previous generation product, the SAF85xx doubles RF performance and improves signal processing speed by 40%. The single-chip family provides 4D sensing capabilities for corner and forward radars for a wide range of safety-critical ADAS applications, such as automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, blind spot monitoring, lateral traffic warning and automatic parking. Thanks to the greater flexibility offered by the new series, Oems can meet expanding NCAP safety requirements and surging demand for radar sensors, which some analysts expect to be installed at least five per vehicle in the future.
Combined with NXP's power management and connectivity solutions, this system solution provides more flexibility to meet OEM needs today and in the future. Developers will also benefit from the seamless performance scalability of the S32R series and the reuse of its hardware and software designs.
