New OTDR series is released for optical network testing

Yokogawa Test & Measurement Corporation has released the AQ7290 Series optical time domain reflectometer (OTDR), a highly reliable and accurate optical fibre field test instrument that will alleviate the construction and maintenance of rapidly expanding optical communication networks. The device is supplied with new functions that improve operability and workability.

     Yokogawa Test & Measurement Corporation has announced the AQ7290 Series optical time domain reflectometer (OTDR), a highly reliable and accurate fiber-optic field test instrument that will ease the construction and maintenance of rapidly expanding optical communication networks. The device offers new features that improve operability and processability. There are six standard and high performance models in the family, offering a choice of two or three wavelengths to cover a wide range of fiber installation and maintenance measurement needs.

 

     Positioned as the flagship model of the company's OTDR family, the new series was developed to improve reliability and ease of use during the installation and maintenance of fiber optic networks. Typical applications include fiber installation and maintenance, including long distance fiber as a metro/core network between buildings and cities.

 

     Terry Marrinan, vice president of Global Sales and Marketing at Yokogawa Test & Measurement, said: "Field technicians need to be completely confident in making fast, accurate measurements. "Throughout our development, we have ensured that the new series will provide customers with a high level of reliability, processability and operability, making fiber optic measurement easier than ever before."

 

     Designed for ease of use in the field, the series features a robust design and stable operation that ensures reliable measurement results even in the harshest field conditions. From an operability point of view, the device can be measured in less than ten seconds after powering on, helping to improve work efficiency.

 

     In addition to the traditional knob and hardware key control system, the multi-touch screen supports intuitive operation and improved ease of use through an updated graphical user interface. Notably, the addition of a simplified OTDR mode means that even users who are not familiar with OTDR instruments can easily take measurements with the press of a button. In addition, the pop-up window shows the next action, reducing the workload of the field technicians.

 

     Add a USB Type-C port for DC power without the need for a dedicated AC adapter. The device can also be powered by a mobile battery that complies with the USB power transfer standard, allowing it to respond to sudden service calls with complete peace of mind.In terms of OTDR capabilities, the company has improved dynamic range, allowing measurements to be made over longer distances. The dynamic range has been improved by 2dB compared to the previous generation AQ7280 series and is now available for all six models in the new series.

 

     In addition, it supports high-reflection real-time measurement, emphasizing the quality of the display waveform, and updating while displaying the waveform with high precision. This makes it possible to measure long distance routes and the far end of multi-branch separators, which are not visible in traditional real-time measurements.

 

     The AQ7290 series also enhances connectivity. With an attached wireless LAN adapter, technicians can operate and communicate with the OTDR from an external terminal in the office or at home. It is also compatible with an LTE USB dongle, allowing remote control even without a Wi-Fi router.
