New addition of highly integrated offline converters to ST VIPerPlus family

     The VIPer31 compact High Voltage converter IC from STMicroelectronics is the latest addition to the VIPerPlus family, enabling robust power converters with high reliability that meet energy efficient ecodesign specifications while saving bill of Materials (BoM) costs. The VIPer31 is ideal for designing common off-line AC/DC converter topologies, including isolated and non-isolated flybacks, buck and buck-boost converters. This compact converter IC is highly integrated and requires very few peripheral components for practical applications, which enables the use of low-cost PCBS in small sizes and the development and design of cost-effective power products.

     High conversion efficiency of less than 20mW in no-load power consumption, combined with 230VAC input voltage, makes VIPer31 suitable for designing switching power supplies (SMPS) for large or small appliances, air conditioning, smart home or building automation, lighting, meters and motor control.

     The IC incorporates 30kHz, 60kHz and 132kHz optional frequency jitter PWM controllers, as well as an 800V avalanche reinforced MOSFET power stage, a high-voltage start circuit, a sense FET current detection sensor, a direct feedback error amplifier, an internal power supply with no auxiliary windings, and a grip-free design.

     The wide Vcc supply voltage from 4.5V to 30V helps simplify the power supply design of the VIPer31 itself. In addition, the 24VDC drain start voltage can further save external circuit costs and allow for an ultra-wide AC input voltage range, thereby enhancing the chip's application flexibility in consumer and industrial fields.
