Nexperia expands its portfolio with the first integrated 5 V load switch

     Nexperia, a specialist in high-capacity production of basic semiconductor devices, announced the launch of its load switch product line, further expanding its analog and logic portfolio. The NPS4053 is the star of this product launch, a high-density integrated circuit (IC) that provides excellent system protection performance due to its small size, helping to improve system reliability and ensure system security. The device is optimized for use in portable devices such as laptops, desktop computers, docking stations and in-vehicle infotainment systems.

     The load switch is an essential device for the normal operation of various modern electronic systems. These switches play a key role in managing the current/voltage from the power supply to the load in a controlled manner. In a typical power supply chain, the NPS4053 is usually located closer to the load and is responsible for managing the supply sequence and controlling the inrush current, as well as shutting down the power to save power, so it is especially important for battery-powered devices. The solution's monolithic structure simplifies circuit design and reduces PCB size by 85% compared to similar discrete devices.

     The NPS4053 operates at an input voltage of 2.5 V to 5.5 V and includes a 55 mΩ self-protecting MOSFET to effectively manage the power flow to the load. The device contains A programmable current limiting circuit that precisely controls the load current with an accuracy of +6% in the 110 mA to 2.5 A range. The device also provides "true" reverse current blocking for robust and reliable end-to-end system protection. To further enhance system monitoring performance, the NPS4053 also incorporates a fault indicator pin that alerts the host controller to a fault event.
