Nexperia, a specialist in high-capacity production of basic semiconductor devices, announced the expansion of the package family of the NextPower 80/100 V MOSFET portfolio. Previously available only in the LFPAK56E package, the portfolio now adds the LFPAK56 and LFPAK88 package designs.

     Nexperia, a specialist in high-capacity production of basic semiconductor devices, announced the expansion of the package family of the NextPower 80/100 V MOSFET portfolio. Previously available only in the LFPAK56E package, the portfolio now adds the LFPAK56 and LFPAK88 package designs. These devices feature high efficiency and low spikes for communication, server, industrial, switching power, fast charge, USB-PD and motor control applications.

 

     The quality factor Qg*RDSon has long been the focus of semiconductor manufacturers to improve the efficiency of MOSFET switches. However, blindly reducing this quality factor has the unintended consequence of increasing the peak voltage resistance when the MOSFET is turned on or off, resulting in increased electromagnetic interference (EMI). Once this new issue was identified, Nexperia immediately began investigating how to improve other process technical parameters to help resolve the issue.

 

     Nexperia's tireless efforts culminated in the release of the NextPower 80/100 V MOSFETs. The device has a low Qrr (reverse recovery charge), thus significantly reducing spikes during switching transitions, while exhibiting the same efficient performance as competing MOSFETs with lower EMI.

 

     By adding the LFPAK56 and LFPAK88 packages to the high-efficiency, low-spike NextPower 80/100 V MOSFETs, Nexperia not only helps designers reduce application size and experience the superior reliability of copper clip-on packages, but also provides new options for design engineers and customers. The hope is to provide additional resources for existing designs.
