Nexperia introduces a new ESD protection device for high-speed interfaces in automotive applications

     Nexperia has announced a range of ESD protection devices specifically designed to protect the increasing number of high-speed interfaces in automotive applications, particularly in-vehicle networks (IVNs) related to infotainment and vehicle communications. As data transfer rates increase and on-board electronic content increases, the need for EMC protection becomes increasingly important, and providing the right type of protection has become a huge challenge for design engineers. Nexperia's TrEOS technology optimizes three key parameters of ESD protection - signal integrity, system protection, and robustness - to provide a device with the ideal combination of low capacitance, low clamp voltage, and high ESD robustness.

     The new PESD4USBx family includes a total of twelve high-performance 4-channel ESD protection devices using TrEOS technology. Extremely low line capacitance per channel (down to 0.25pF) and line matching capacitance below 0.05pF ensure signal integrity. All devices offer deep rebound and low resistance of 0.4 Ohm. The PESD4USBx series is equipped with ESD protection up to ±15 kV and complies with IEC61000-4-2 level 4 and ISO10605. This is the highest level of ESD protection currently offered in this package size, making the device ideal for modern, densely packaged automotive designs.

     Devices support A wide range of interface standards, including USB 2.0, ultra-high-speed USB (10 Gbps), HDMI 2.0, HDBaseT, and a growing number of automotive A/V monitors, displays, and cameras in vehicles. The PESD4USBx device also supports video links (SerDes) : GMSL, FPD-Link and LVDS.

     These devices are designed for automotive applications and exceed the requirements of the AEC-Q101 by two times. In addition, in Nexperia's state-of-the-art DFN2510D packages (SOT1165D and SOT1176D), wet-tinable side pads (SWF) are available as standard, enabling the use of automated optical inspection (AOI) to improve assembly quality for customers.
