    Nexperia, a global leader in discrete, logic and MOSFET devices, is introducing the latest addition to its NextPower Live linear mode MOSFET family. The PSMN3R7-100BSE offers the best combination of robust safe operating area (SOA) and low RDS(on), ideal for hot swap, soft start and electronic fuse applications.

 

     The combination of a MOSFET with a high SOA and a hot-swapable controller is designed to manage the high inrush current that may occur when switching server motherboards or other pluggable systems, ensuring a smooth startup of the processor board. Previous generations of devices have been optimized between SOA and RDS(on), and the new technology maximizes SOA without compromising RDS(on), thereby maintaining a high level of operational efficiency.

 

     Compared to standard technology, Nexperia's new PSMN3R7-100BSE MOSFETs improve SOA with a four-fold increase in linear mode performance and a maximum RDS(on) of only 3.95mΩ (typical value 3.36mΩ) - approximately 18% lower internal resistance than previous devices. These N-channel 100V devices are in a D2PAK package with a junction temperature of 175 OC. In addition, these devices are fully compatible with heat exchange controllers from all leading manufacturers.

 

     Mike Becker, Product manager at Nexperia, said: "Server and communications infrastructure companies are concentrating increasingly powerful processing power in blade and rack-based systems, driving up power demand. Reliable heat exchange operations are critical to managing the inrush current encountered during start-up, but as power levels and efficiency requirements increase, low RDS(on) becomes increasingly important. "Nexperia's NextPower Live MOSFETs offer a standard combination of strong SOA and low RDS(on), allowing engineers to design ultra-rugged hot-swapable solutions to manage inrush current, with lower RDS(on) providing the highest levels of efficiency."
