Nexperia introduces pin-free CAN-FD protection diodes compliant with the AEC-Q101 standard

     Nexperia has announced a new pin-free ESD protection device for CAN-FD applications. The device is in a pin-free package with wettable tin-soldable side pads that support the use of AOI tools. The PESD2CANFDx family of components is fully AEC-Q101 compliant while providing industry-leading ESD and RF performance, saving PCB space. The DFN1412D-3 and DFN1110D-3 packages for automotive and industrial applications, including CAN/CAN-FD, FlexRay, SENT and LVDS, offer 20 devices.

     Nexperia provides silicon-based ESD protection for the CAN-FD bus in both pin-free and pin-free packages. The new DFN1412D-3 and DFN1110D-3 pin-free DFN packages with wet-tinable side pads take up 80% less PCB space than traditional SOT23 and SOT323 packages. Nevertheless, the products assembled in this package have improved thermal characteristics due to the larger internal lead frame containing the heat sink and thermal shims.

     The PESD2CANFDx diodes also feature robust ESD protection, providing excellent system-level protection performance. This is because the clamping voltage of the component is extremely low, only 33 V at IPP = 1 A, and the dynamic resistance is as low as 0.7 Ω. The Nexperia ESD protection device also offers excellent RF switching parameters, with a mixed mode insertion loss of only +20 dB at 300 MHz for excellent signal integrity.
