Nexperia introduces resistance transistors for 48 V automotive and other higher voltage bus circuits

Nexperia first announced the 80 V RET (with resistance transistor) series. These new RET or "digital transistors" provide enough margin for use in 48-V automotive panel grids (such as mild hybrid and EV vehicles) and other higher-voltage circuits that are often subject to large spikes and pulses that previous 50-V devices could not handle.

     By combining bias resistors and bias emitter resistors in the same SOT23 (250 mW Ptot) or SOT323 (235 mW Ptot) packages as transistors, RET can save space and reduce manufacturing costs. The SOT363 package also offers dual RETs (two transistors and two matching bias resistors and bias emitter resistors) with a Ptot of 350 mW for greater integration and cost savings.

 

     The new family (NHDTx and NHUMx) includes 42 devices with a PNP/NPN combination with the same combination of bias resistors as Nexperia's 50 V devices. The device has a current capability of 100 mA and is AEC-Q101 certified.

 

     Frank Matschullat, Product Group Manager at Nexperia, commented: "Design engineers for novel EV applications can use Nexperia's new RET to simplify system design, save PCB space, reduce patch time and improve reliability, ensuring that the system is ready for future needs. In addition to 48-V automotive circuit driver applications, general-purpose switches and amplifiers and other digital systems will also benefit from these new high-voltage devices."
