Nexperia introduces the new NEH71x0 PMIC series

     Nexperia has introduced the NEH71x0 power management IC (PMIC) family, expanding its energy harvesting portfolio with a focus on performance, cost-efficiency, and versatility. This advanced PMIC line sets a new benchmark for sustainable design in low-power applications.

     A key advantage of the NEH71x0 series is its inductor-less design, which significantly reduces circuit board space and bill-of-materials (BOM) costs. These PMICs come in a compact 4 mm x 4 mm QFN28 package, ideal for applications such as remote controls, key fobs, smart tags, asset trackers, occupancy sensors, environmental monitors, wearables, keyboards, tire pressure monitors, and a wide range of Internet of Things (IoT) devices.

     Designed as a complete power management solution, the NEH71x0 series supports energy harvesting to extend battery life, recharge batteries or supercapacitors, and even enable battery-free designs with its cold start capability. Engineers can harness energy from various ambient sources, including light, kinetic (piezoelectric), or thermal gradients.

     With an input power range of 15 μW to 100 mW, these high-performance PMICs achieve energy conversion efficiency of up to 95%. An integrated maximum power point tracking (MPPT) adaptive algorithm adjusts every 0.5 seconds, optimizing energy harvesting in dynamically changing environments.

     The NEH71x0 family includes robust power management features such as over-voltage protection, low-voltage detection, and over-current protection, ensuring reliable operation for batteries and storage elements. The addition of a low-dropout (LDO) regulator and USB charging functionality further reduces BOM costs and simplifies the design process. The NEH710BU variant offers I²C programmability and measurement readings, providing engineers with greater flexibility and control.

     Complementing Nexperia’s NEH2000 PMIC, the NEH71x0 family introduces more advanced energy harvesting capabilities and a broader range of power management features. This launch represents the next milestone in Nexperia’s roadmap of innovative, inductor-less energy harvesting solutions.
