Nexperia launches Energy Capture PMIC

Nexperia announced the launch of energy capture solutions to further enrich its line of power management ics. The solution simplifies the low-power Internet of Things (IoT) and its embedded applications and enhances application performance. The NEH2000BY is a high performance power management integrated circuit (PMIC) that collects energy from the environment, such as light from photovoltaic cells, and charges batteries or storage capacitors.

     Nexperia, a specialist in basic semiconductor devices, announced the launch of an energy capture solution to further enrich its line of power management ics. The solution simplifies the low-power Internet of Things (IoT) and its embedded applications and enhances application performance. The NEH2000BY is a high performance power management integrated circuit (PMIC) that collects energy from the environment, such as light from photovoltaic cells, and charges batteries or storage capacitors.

 

     With this feature, Nexperia's NEH2000BY enables the development of smaller, more environmentally friendly, self-powered electronic devices. In addition, the energy capture solution will help mitigate the environmental impact of the billions of batteries produced and discarded each year.the NEH2000BY helps simplify the design process for energy capture solutions that are 20 times smaller than competing products and require no additional optimization for individual applications. In addition, the PMIC uses an induction-free design, which simplifies the PCB design, significantly reduces the total BOM cost and reduces the board size, with an assembly area of only 12 mm².

 

     To maximize conversion efficiency, energy capture solutions must be able to adapt to environmental energy fluctuations. NEH2000BY employs maximum power point tracking (MPPT) technology, an adaptive algorithm that optimizes the transmission mode of captured energy and achieves an average conversion efficiency of up to 80%.

 

     This unique MPPT algorithm is not only fast, but also highly accurate, allowing PMIC to adapt to environmental changes within 1 second. This is much faster than any other solution currently available and can significantly increase the amount of energy captured in a day, thus greatly expanding its application field. In addition, the NEH2000BY includes self-optimization and runs autonomically without pre-programming, making it easier for designers to power devices using environmental energy.

 

     Nexperia's energy capture solutions capture energy from a variety of environments to help save costs in applications that consume as little as a few microwatts, including wireless Internet of Things nodes, wearable smart tags and electronic shelf tags. The NEH2000BY is packaged in a 16-pin 3 mm × 3 mm QFN package. Operating temperature range is -40°C to +85°C.

 

     "The NEH2000BY combines the benefits of being cost-effective, easy to use and lightweight and compact to be used more widely in energy capture applications," said Dan Jensen, general manager of Nexperia's Analog and Logic IC business unit. "With NEH2000BY, those applications will no longer require battery replacement or battery removal, resulting in significant reductions in hazardous waste generation and significant environmental benefits."
