Nexperia's AC/DC flyback controllers enable GaN based flyback converters with higher power density

     Nexperia has introduced a new line of AC/DC flyback controllers to further expand its expanding portfolio of power ics. The NEX806/8xx and NEX8180x are designed for GaN based flyback converters for devices such as PD(Power Delivery) fast chargers, adapters, wall sockets, strip sockets, industrial power supplies and auxiliary power supplies, and other AC/DC conversion applications that require high power density.

     The NEX806xx/NEX808xx is a quasi-resonant/multimode flyback controller that operates over a wide VCC range (10-83V), while the NEX81801/NEX81802 is an adaptive synchronous rectifier controller. These ics can be used in conjunction with Nexperia's NEX52xxx PD controller and other discrete power devices to provide a complete flyback converter solution that optimizes current detection voltage levels and uses PFM mode to help reduce standby power and achieve high efficiency across the load range.

     The primary side controller can be used to directly drive a silicon MOSFET or GaN high electron mobility transistor (HEMT), helping to increase power density, while the synchronous rectifier (SR) controller uses an innovative adaptive control method to eliminate the possibility of misdirection by switching devices, thereby improving overall system reliability.

     The flyback controller IC is packaged in a TSOT23-6 flip chip package for better thermal performance and also helps prevent accidental triggering of the overtemperature protection (OTP) feature. The control circuit also includes additional protection functions, making it ideal for use in consumer and industrial flyback power supply designs.
