Nonmagnetic connectors developed for special applications

     Amphenol RF has expanded its micro SMP product line to include non-magnetic connectors and adapter options. These configurations are manufactured from non-ferrous materials and electroplating to provide high performance RF interconnects with low magnetic field susceptibility and no electric field distortion.

     All non-magnetic SMP connectors and adapters provide the same reliable board-to-board and board-to-cable connections as standard SMP products. The non-magnetic SMP option is ideal for sensitive medical, aerospace, and quantum computing applications. These 50 ohm non-magnetic products are available in a variety of fit configurations and stop types -- smooth hole, limited and full stop -- with excellent electrical performance up to 40GHz.

     The SMP interface provides a direct-fit locking mechanism and radial and axial floats that provide board-to-board deviation correction. PCB spacing options are based on pin adapter length. Non-magnetic SMP connectors are also offered in a variety of cable plug designs for flexible cable types. Non-magnetic SMP connectors feature gold plating, beryllium copper body and contacts, and teflon insulators.

     They are ideal for applications such as MRI devices, where non-magnetic coaxial connectors are critical for transmitting RF signals in magnetic fields that require a high signal-to-noise ratio. These connectors and adapters are designed specifically to work in this environment and are not affected by electrical aspects, allowing the equipment to operate safely and efficiently.
