Nordic Semiconductor enables Matter 1.3-certified smart smoke and carbon monoxide detector modules

Nordic Semiconductor design partner HooRii Technology has introduced a Matter 1.3-certified module that enables smart smoke and carbon monoxide (CO) detectors to trigger audible alarms in emergency situations. And send near-real-time notifications to connected devices within the Matter ecosystem. The "HooRii Smoke and carbon Monoxide Alarm" module is designed for iot device Oems and uses Nordic's nRF52840 SoC. The multi-protocol SoC is suitable for developing Matter connected home products and is transmitted via Thread connectivity, configuring new devices into the network via Bluetooth® LE connectivity.

The module comes in two versions, one with a built-in antenna (12 x 10 mm) and the other with support for an external antenna (10 x 10 mm). Both versions integrate photoelectric sensors for smoke detection and electrochemical sensors for carbon monoxide detection, and are powered by the Nordic nRF52840 SoC's 64 MHz Arm® Cortex® M4 processor for fast data processing. The processor is designed to support floating-point (FP) and digital signal processing (DSP) calculations typical of high-end wireless applications.

Fully automatic power management

In addition to the Arm processor and multi-protocol support, the nRF52840 SoC features a fully automated power management system, configurable power mode and optimized wireless connectivity to minimize power consumption, which greatly extends battery life when the HooRii smoke and carbon monoxide alarm modules are idle. The module runs on the HooRiiOS operating system, which offers development-free Matter firmware and uses HooRii Technology's "HPLS" (HooRii Line Service) technology. Provide centralized online production management and quality testing for mass production of Matter equipment on the production line.
