ON Semiconductor, a driver of energy-efficient innovation, announced that automaker SUBARU CORPORATION has selected its image perception technology to enable camera-based Advanced Driver assistance systems (ADAS) in the automaker's next-generation EyeSight Driver assistance platform. The 2020 all-wheel drive sports wagon Levorg is the first model to offer the new system.

Subaru's EyeSight has won numerous security awards and is one of the most mature and widely deployed vision-based ADAS solutions on the market. The next generation platform continues the stereoscopic camera architecture and offers a range of ADAS features, including adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assistance and pre-collision braking. As with earlier versions of EyeSight, On Semiconductor's image-sensing technology acts as the "eye" for this important safety feature. The new generation of Eyesight, recently released in the Japanese market, offers added features such as an active lane change assist system and an emergency driver parking system.

Eiji Shibata, general manager of EyeSight Development Program at Subaru, said: "We have worked with ON Semiconductor on each generation of EyeSight ADAS systems and continue to adopt their image perception technology optimized for image recognition performance in automotive applications with higher resolution. Our engineering partnerships and technical collaborations on this system are critical to achieving our shared vision of improving safety and achieving zero traffic deaths in the near future."

Patrick Moorhead, founder, president and principal analyst at Moor Insights & Strategy, said: "The next generation of vehicles will require several different kinds of sensors, including LiDAR, radar and cameras, to make up automotive ADAS. These sensors collect data and feed it into a larger processor (or set of processors), capable of making real-time decisions about what is happening inside and outside the vehicle, and how the vehicle should respond. I believe On Semiconductor's market leader position in the automotive market and more than 50 years of proven experience, combined with a focus on safety and quality, a global support architecture and a roadmap with all sensor modes, is an attractive choice for any OEM or Tier 1 automaker."

As the global market leader in automotive image sensing technology, ON Semiconductor has shipped more than 120 million image sensors for ADAS applications. The company will continue to innovate to meet the needs of future ADAS and autonomous driving systems. On Semiconductor's image sensing technology provides the resolution and frame rate that enables automotive camera systems to operate at optimal levels; Provides the required high dynamic range and flexible exposure ratio control to ensure performance in all natural lighting conditions; And provides mitigation of LED flickering to prevent interference from artificial light sources.

Ross Jatou, vice president and general manager of Automotive solutions at ON Semiconductor's Intelligent Perception Division, said: "Subaru's high quality standards and commitment to road safety make their choice of our technology a strong endorsement. We are excited to continue working with them to save lives by providing safer roads with ADAS and autonomous vehicles."
