Onsemi announced the launch of the Treo platform, an analog and mixed-signal platform built with advanced 65nm node BCD (Bipolar - CMOS-DMOS) process technology. The platform provides a strong foundation for ON's broad range of power and perception solutions, including high performance and low power perception, efficient power management and dedicated communications devices. With this scalable single solution, customers can simplify and accelerate product development for existing applications and quickly capture emerging market opportunities.
The increasing demand for electricity in today's automotive, industrial, and AI data center markets, coupled with stricter environmental regulations, is driving the need to improve energy efficiency in these industries and demand higher performance and functionality in end applications. In addition, low-power devices such as medical wearables are becoming increasingly complex, requiring more intelligence and energy efficiency to improve personal care and reduce device costs. This requires highly integrated, advanced power and sensing solutions that deliver greater intelligence while achieving greater energy efficiency across the entire power range.
The Treo platform is uniquely positioned to meet these growing demands, not only with superior performance and functionality, but also with the ability to support an industry-leading wide voltage range on leading nodes. Products built on the Treo platform can achieve significant improvements in accuracy, performance and energy efficiency, resulting in improved functionality, safety and quality throughout the life cycle. For example:
In the automotive sector, high-performance ultrasonic sensors can triple accuracy, which means they can detect objects much closer to the vehicle in parking assistance applications. With the ability to detect objects closer together, parking assist systems can help drivers more effectively avoid obstacles while parking, providing better collision avoidance and improving overall safety.
In healthcare, an ultra-low power analog front end (AFE) for continuous glucose monitors (CGM) can measure currents as small as nanoamps (nA) more accurately. This precision is essential for detecting the tiny signals generated by blood sugar sensors to ensure accurate blood sugar readings. By integrating multiple functions into a single compact chip, the platform is able to halve the space required and extend battery life to weeks. This means that the entire CGM device is smaller and more comfortable to wear, while reducing the number of replacement times to save medical costs.
In data center applications, the Treo platform will make On's smart power stages more compact, helping to improve energy efficiency in powering Gpus and cpus. This can reduce cooling requirements and significantly save energy, resulting in lower operating costs, reduced environmental impact and sustainable development.
The Treo platform uses a system-on-a-chip (SoC) -like modular architecture with an evolving and robust set of IP building blocks for computing, power management, perception, and communication subsystems. The Treo platform uses 65 nm process nodes with advanced digital processing capabilities and better analog IP performance. With these capabilities, the platform can provide native intelligence and computing capabilities, enable flexible configuration, and significantly improve the performance and accuracy of end applications. In addition, the platform supports an industry-leading wide voltage range of 1-90V and operating temperatures up to 175°C, enabling customers to integrate a range of functions from low power to high power. These capabilities enhance On's ability to deliver optimized solutions and customized product portfolios, enabling customers to bring products to market faster than ever before.
On Semiconductor now offers samples of the initial TreO-platform product family, including voltage converters, ultra-low power AFE, LDO, ultrasonic sensors, polyphase controllers, and single pair Ethernet controllers. By 2025, ON will offer a broader product portfolio that adds more system-level value, including: high-performance sensors, DC-DC converters, automotive LED drivers, electrical safety ics, connectivity products, and more.
