ON extension BLE MCU family for car wireless applications

     Onsemi has unveiled an ultra-low power automotive class wireless microcontroller with Bluetooth low energy connectivity. As the number of sensors and on-board communications increases, automakers are increasingly turning to wireless connectivity to reduce the cost and weight of redundant cables, and the NCV-RSL15 is a perfect fit for these manufacturers.

     The new microcontroller can also manage security issues arising from more sensors and possible attack vectors. While the list of sensors and general functions in TMS and other sensing applications continues to grow, the power budget has yet to grow. Meanwhile, some apps now require 10 years of battery life.

     Certified by EEMBC as the industry's lowest power-safe wireless microcontroller, the device offers a proprietary intelligence-aware power mode designed to use as little power as possible. Being able to save more batteries is directly related to extending product life.

     As the number of access points increases, potential attack vectors must also be protected from unauthorized wireless access to the vehicle's central body computer or CPU. The device offers the latest embedded security, Arm CryptoCell provides hardware-based root of trust security booting, hardware-accelerated encryption algorithms accessible to many users, and FOTA capabilities to provide future firmware updates and security patch deployments. With its rich sample code base, the complete and easy-to-use software development kit provides a springboard for application development.
