ON announced the launch of a new 10BASE-T1S Ethernet controller designed to provide reliable multipoint communication for industrial environments. NCN26,010 simplifies the installation, achieves greater data throughput, and realizes more than 40 nodes on a twisted pair, which is five times more than the number of nodes required by IEEE 802.3cg standard, reducing the installation cost and setup complexity.
For wiring in the cabinet, the NCN26010 reduces the wiring by 70%, while significantly improving the bandwidth. In the backplane, it simplifies layout and power distribution without affecting data rate or latency. With this new device, many applications, such as elevators, will be able to increase data throughput on existing cabling. Because of the ability to transmit power on data cables, complex sensor networks can be built with simple and low-cost cable routing.
Michel De Mey, Vice President of ON Industrial Solutions Division, said, "NCN26010 enables a larger multi station connection network and reduces the total number of large installed networks. Customers use our new fully integrated controller solution, which is smaller than the previous controller and easier to integrate."
The new controller realizes 10BASE-T1S (802.3cg) Ethernet for multi station connection communication, effectively replacing the traditional point-to-point and multi-point industrial communication standard on the same bus. T1S MAC/PHY can replace RS-485, CAN, RS-232 and HART standards. Therefore, greater data throughput is achieved on the existing cabling, without the need for re wiring, saving the largest expenditure in network installation.
The single pair Ethernet installation based on the controller reduces the number, volume and cost of cabling, while the multi station function can connect multiple nodes, such as sensors, to a twisted pair. The NCN26010 also contains proprietary enhanced noise immunity, which is critical for installation in an electrical noise industrial environment.
In addition, the capacitance of the NCN26010 on the line pin is lower than that of the existing T1S scheme, thus supporting more nodes on a single network. Since the communication with NCN26010 can be carried out via SPI, the number of pins is less and the package size is smaller. NCN26,010 is the first PHY+MAC controller supporting 10BASE-T1S in the industry. It can be connected to controllers, sensors and other devices without external MAC.
