OmniVision Launches Artificial Intelligence ASIC OAX4600

     OmniVision released Advanced Artificial Intelligence Application Specific Integrated Circuits (ASICs) for the automotive industry, which can simultaneously supply power to a dedicated driver/occupant monitoring system (DMS/OMS) in a seamless manner. The product uses a chip stack architecture to provide integrated RGB IR image signal processing (ISP). It uses two artificial intelligence neural processing units (NPUs) and embedded DDR3 memory (2Gb) in a single low-power, small size package chip.

     Mark Fitzgerald, research director of autonomous vehicle of Strategy Analytics, said: "For manufacturers who want to comply with regional safety regulations, driver monitoring solutions with high performance, low power consumption and small package size are very attractive. It is an additional advantage to be able to flexibly add additional functions and extend to cockpit monitoring."

    The OAX4600 is a new generation ASIC that uses OmniVision's dedicated NPU with 2 megaoperations per second. The product also uses Occula NPU of Seeing Machine to improve application flexibility. OAX4600 adopts 2Gb embedded DDR stack memory and NEON ™ Tri ARM Cortex A53 of the core subsystem. The OAX4600 can handle higher resolution, up to 5 million pixels. The product has a fast startup speed, which can shorten the delay from power on to plotting within the camera, and integrates network security functions.
