OmniVision Technologies has unveiled the first automotive image sensor powered by Nyxel technology

OmniVision Technologies, the world's leading digital imaging solution provider, has announced the automotive industry's first image sensor powered by Nyxel's ground-breaking near-infrared (NIR) technology: the OX03A2S. The 2.5 megapixel ASIL-B class sensor is designed for external imaging applications and can be used in low-light or even no-light environments up to 2 meters around the car body.

     OmniVision Technologies, the world's leading digital imaging solution provider, has announced the automotive industry's first image sensor powered by Nyxel's ground-breaking near-infrared (NIR) technology: the OX03A2S. The 2.5 megapixel ASIL-B class sensor is designed for external imaging applications and can be used in low-light or even no-light environments up to 2 meters around the car body.

 

     Nyxel technology uses a new silicon semiconductor architecture and process to achieve a quantum efficiency of up to 40% at 940nm NIR wavelength, which is among the highest in the global automotive industry. Thanks to this, the OX03A2S can detect and recognize objects in low light that other image sensors cannot capture, thereby improving the performance of security systems.

 

     Mathew Arcoleo, Product Marketing Manager, OmniVision Technologies, said: "The combination of Nyxel technology and 3.2 micron pixels in the OX03A2S provides the industry's best low-light performance that no other automotive image sensor can match. In addition, Howe's DCG technology also enables excellent HDR performance. As a new benchmark in automotive imaging applications, this sensor opens up a whole new range of possibilities for external close-range cameras that need to operate in low-light or even no-light environments."

 

     Because automotive sensors using OX03A2S have lower illumination requirements, material costs and overall power consumption are also reduced. In addition, the sensor has a 1/2.44" optical specification and its A-CSP ™ package is 50% smaller in volume compared to competing models, helping to hide the camera from view for improved form factor design.
