OmniVision brings high-definition video to smart home security cameras and introduces a 4-megapixel image sensor

     OmniVision has announced the all-new 4-megapixel CMOS image sensor OS04L. OS04L brings 2K resolution digital images and HD video to consumer security devices such as smart homes, doorbells, baby monitors, IP and HD analog cameras. The OS04L image sensor enables manufacturers to cost-effectively increase camera resolution from 2 /3 megapixels to 4 megapixels using small pixel size sensors in 1/3 inch optical format.

     The OS04L image sensor uses Howe Group's OmniPixel 3-HS technology with a 2.0 micron pixel size. This high-performance, cost-effective solution uses highly sensitive forward-image (FSI) technology to achieve true color reproduction in both light and dark conditions.

     "OS04L enables consumer security devices to seamlessly upgrade their camera resolution to 4 megapixel and at a price comparable to 2 - and 3-megapixel sensors," said Cheney Zhang, senior marketing manager, OmniVision Group. This is especially important as the demand for entry-level smart home devices is increasing around the world and customers want high performance, cost-effective products."

     The global smart home market is expected to reach $537.01 billion by 2030, with a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 27% from 2022 to 2030, according to a report by Grand View Research. Security and surveillance will have the highest revenue share in 2021, at about 31%. The OS04L image sensor provides 2K resolution at 30 frames/SEC with a 2x2 binning mode for increased sensitivity. OS04L supports the MIPI interface.
