OmniVision endoscope and catheter image signal processors add 3D and higher performance options

OmniVision announced another significant addition to its OVMed Medical Image Signal Processor (ISP) family at the International Medical Device Design and Manufacturing Trade Show (MD&M West). These products are designed to work with its high-performance medical image sensors for rapid integration into disposable and reusable endoscopes and catheters. Building on the success of Howe's universal OVMed ISP, launched in 2018, these five new processors provide device designers with increased flexibility to create additional resolution, frame rate, output, and excellent feature set options.

"We expanded the OVMed family to nine different ISPs, providing the industry's largest set of medical design options to meet the needs of customers who are new to CMOS imaging and those who want to accelerate the development of the latest medical devices," said Tehzeeb Gunja, marketing development Manager at Howwell Technologies. He added: "There will not be one size and one price that fits all. Therefore, we offer a range of ISP solutions in different sizes, prices, feature sets and outputs. Now, we are adding outstanding, professional 3D stereo imaging ISPs to our growing OVMed family to support innovative, cutting-edge product concepts."

The OVMed product line includes the following three categories of ISPs:

● Mini products are extremely small and cost-effective options that can be integrated into the endoscope handle
● Advanced product with high image quality and easy installation into the camera controller (CCU)
● Professional products, very high image quality, excellent feature set, can also be installed in the camera controller

The new Professional series features excellent resolution of up to 4K2K while supporting streaming video at 60 frames per second, as well as high-end ISP capabilities that support excellent noise reduction and color accuracy for very high image quality. The Professional range of products can accept up to 4 channels of digital MIPI/sub-LVDS input. In addition, they can be connected to image sensors via longer input cables up to 5 meters long.

Professional series ISPs also have the following characteristics: Dynamic Shadow Control, distortion correction, Advanced backlight compensation, automatic exposure and gain control Windows, exposure weighting and compensation, Advanced automatic white balance, color enhancement, tone, halo, Contrast adjustment/enhancement/curve, high dynamic range, cropping/Digital Zoom, resizing, frame rate control, Freeze, time lapse, Dual image Display, Lighting control, RAW 8/10/12 Image output and RGB565/888 bypass mode.these features make the Professional series ideal for use in medical gastrointestinal endoscopy and airway management applications.
