OmniVision has announced the third generation of image sensor chips

     OmniVision Technologies Inc. has released the third generation of image sensor chip OmniPixel3. This novel chip is based on 1.75 micropixel technology, which can provide higher resolution to the sensor, thereby improving the quality of the image.The OmniPixel3 chip is the result of a combination of technologies that increase pixel density and display a maximum of 1.75 micropixels. The chip uses advanced design principles and is connected to a dedicated 0.11 micron CMOS processor.

     According to OmniVision, the OmniPixel3 maximizes the power of the light-emitting diodes, designs the pixels for a high full-well capacity, and installs a new low-noise reader. OmniPixel3 optimizes pixel symmetry, thereby avoiding color distortion and increasing the dynamic color range to 65dB. The 20%dB increase increases the sensitivity of the chip, which means that true color can be more realistically represented.

     The new process optimizes the performance of the product, enabling Omnipixel3 to achieve ultra-low dark current (30e/s) and low defect density, the use of which makes the product suitable for low or variable light environments. In addition, the product uses a new transfer gate design technology, when the signal range changes, it can achieve delayed operation. This chip can eliminate the phenomenon of trailing when reading, which ensures that there is no "ghost" and other noise in the image.
