OmniVision introduces 2 megapixel RGB-IR automotive image sensor

     OmniVision announces the OV2778, a 2-megapixel RGB-IR automotive image sensor that provides optimal value for cockpit and passenger monitoring. With its industry-leading capabilities, the sensor is ideal for in-cabin surveillance imaging applications such as monitoring packages, unattended children, and video conferencing. The OV2778 features the smallest possible package for an in-car concealed camera - a 6.5 x 5.7mm automotive CSP - to minimize the visual impact of the exterior. In addition, it provides advanced ASIL functional security, which is important when the OV2778 is part of an ADAS system.

     Based on OmniVision's 2.8-micron OmniBSI™-2 Deep Well™ pixel technology, the OV2778 delivers 16-bit linear output through a single exposure with best-in-class low light sensitivity. With a second exposure, the dynamic range can be increased to 120dB, thereby minimizing motion artifacts. The sensor's leading low-light performance makes it ideal for a wide range of cabin applications. In addition, with integrated RGB-IR, color filters in 4x4 mode and external frame synchronization, the OV2778 achieves optimal imaging results in a wide variety of lighting conditions.

     The image sensor is AEC-Q100 Grade 2 certified for automotive applications. In addition, thanks to the extensive installation of its predecessor, the OV2778 can be easily integrated into existing automotive platforms.
