OmniVision introduces 24 megapixel image sensors to help smartphones achieve the best image quality and advanced performance

OmniVision Technologies, an industry-leading developer of digital image solutions, announced the launch of its second-generation 0.9 micron pixel, 1/2.83-inch optical format 24 megapixel (MP) image sensor based on PureCel Plus stack chip architecture technology. Designed for the front and rear cameras of high-resolution smartphones, the OV24B sensor family features cutting-edge technology and enhanced design for differentiated functionality and superior image performance.

The latest range of image sensors includes four versions:

OV24B1Q: 4-cell Bayer imaging mode; in-pixel binning features for optimal sensitivity and low light performance; The top and bottom of the chip are equipped with metal spacers (pads) to reduce the size of the module in the X direction, which is an ideal sensor for the front camera of the mobile phone with a curved screen without a bezel.

OV24B2Q: 4-cell Bayer imaging mode is adopted. in-pixel binning function; type-2 2x2 Microlens PDAF Phase Focus (ML PDAF), this sensor's excellent video and low-light performance is ideal for main cameras

OV24B1B: monochrome imaging; Extremely low light sensitivity; Great for bokeh and zoom on the rear camera.

OV24B10: Standard Bayer imaging mode; The 24 megapixel resolution is ideal for the main camera, as a bokeh and zoom function for a single or multiple cameras.

The OV24B1Q and OV24B2Q chip re-rendering capabilities enable real-time conversion between high-performance quarter-resolution and 24-megapixel maximum resolution outputs. This performance provides better viewfinder accuracy and enables seamless and fast conversion of still images and video shots.

The OV24B2Q's new 2x2 ML PDAF phase focus feature enables faster autofocus even in extremely low light conditions. All four versions support HD video output in a variety of formats, including 24 megapixels /30 frames per second, 4-cell binning, 6 megapixels /60 frames per second, 4K2K video /60 frames per second, 1080p video /120 frames per second, or 720P video /240 frames per second.
