OmniVision introduces a 0.61 micron pixel high-resolution 4K image sensor

     OmniVision Technologies has announced the OV60A, the world's first 0.61 micron pixel high-resolution 4K image sensor for the front and rear cameras of high-end mobile phones. The OV60A offers a 60-megapixel resolution with a pixel size of 0.61 microns. The OV60A is available in 1/2.8 "optical format with an aspect ratio of 3:4 or 16:9.

     OmniVision Technologies says the 4-in-1 color filter array on the OV60A uses near-pixel merge to output 15 megapixel images with four times the sensitivity, providing 1.22 microns of equivalent performance for preview and native 4K video. And has the additional pixels required for electronic image stabilization (EIS). The sensor also supports a low-power mode for "normally on" sensing, which can save battery life when used in conjunction with the phone's AI capabilities.
