OmniVision has announced the OV05C10, the first 5.2-megapixel image sensor developed specifically for 16:10 aspect ratio laptops. The sensor supports interlaced high dynamic range (HDR) for mainstream and high-end laptops, tablets, and iot devices.

     OmniVision has announced the OV05C10, the first 5.2-megapixel image sensor developed specifically for 16:10 aspect ratio laptops. The sensor supports interlaced high dynamic range (HDR) for mainstream and high-end laptops, tablets, and iot devices.

 

     With a 5.2-megapixel resolution, the OV05C10 image sensor can support automatic viewings for video conferencing by automatically adjusting the camera's field of view to keep the speaker in the center of the image while cropping out distracting backgrounds. The OV05C10 also supports human presence detection (HPD), which improves the efficiency of artificial intelligence (AI) applications and extends the battery life of portable devices.

 

     Danny Liu, Product Manager at OmniVision, said: "Today, with laptops increasingly being used for telecommuting and education, higher resolution, better image quality and richer AI capabilities are becoming particularly important. Human-machine interaction experiences with artificial intelligence are becoming mainstream, and our new product OV05C10 can support multiple AI functions, including HPD. Its higher resolution and unique aspect ratio are ideal for computer video conferencing, and its high dynamic range support ensures higher image quality during video calls."

 

     The OV05C10 is a low-power backlighting (BSI) image sensor that uses Howe Group's PureCel®Plus technology for higher sensitivity, lower noise and better overall image quality. The OV05C10 supports a double-exposure interlace HDR option of 60 frames per second at 5.2 megapixels, providing high image quality in environments with large light and dark differences. The sensor also has an ultra-low power mode to support HPD, which effectively extends battery life.
