On Semiconductor expands its product lineup for industrial motor drives

     Driving energy efficient innovation, ON Semiconductor continues to expand its product lineup for industrial motor drive applications to further help customers solve their specific design challenges. Motor drive systems are proliferating with industrial automation and robots. These systems require high energy efficiency, accurate measurement, accurate control and high reliability in harsh industrial environments. To effectively develop semiconductors for industrial motor drives requires advanced design, the ability to integrate active and passive devices, sophisticated packaging including substrate materials, and high quality and reliability standards.

     On Semiconductor introduces the NXH25C120L2C2, NXH35C120L2C2/2C2E and NXH50C120L2C2E, respectively, in 25, 35 and 50 amp (A) versions of the Transfer Molding Power Integrated Modules (TM-PIM) for 1200 volt (V) applications. Converter-inverter-brake (CIB) and converter-Inverter (CI) configurations are available. The modules include six 1200 V IGBTs, six 1600 V rectifiers, and a negative temperature coefficient (NTC) thermistor for system-level temperature monitoring. The CIB version uses an additional 1200 V IGBT and a diode. The new modules are packaged in transfer molding to extend the cycle life of temperature and power. The modules measure only 73 x 40 x 8 mm (mm) and have weldable pins, with both CIB and CI versions having a standardized pin output.

     The company also introduced the NFAM2012L5B and NFAL5065L4B, expanding the Intelligent Power Module (IPM) product lineup to include rated voltages of 650 V and 1200 V, and rated currents of 10 A to 75 A. These three-phase inverters integrate short-circuit-rated Trench insulated gate bipolar transistors (Trench IGBTs), fast recovery diodes, gate drivers, bootstrap circuitry, optional NTC thermistors and protection to provide a compact and reliable module with an isolation rating of 2500 Vrms/min and are UL1557 certified. These IPMs feature direct bonding to copper substrates and low-loss silicon for extended power cycle life and heat dissipation.

     Through on-chip current isolation, the NCD57000 and NCD57001 IGBT gate drivers achieve a compact, efficient and reliable gate driver design by reducing system complexity. These devices provide 4 A/6 A supply current and draw current, respectively, and also integrate desaturation (DESAT), Miller clamp, under-voltage lock (UVLO) protection, Enable, and regulated VREF. The NCS21871 zero-drift OP amp provides precise signal conditioning with a low input bias voltage of 45 µV while maintaining this accuracy from -40°C to +125°C with a low input bias drift of 0.4 µV /°C. These parameters make it ideal for low side current detection.

     The NCP730 LDO regulator offers 150 mA, output voltage accuracy of ± 1%, operating input voltage range from 2.7 V to 38 V and low voltage drop. The integrated soft start suppresses inrush current and provides short circuit and overheat protection in case of overload, making the device ideal for industrial automation applications.
