Article Cover
The NCN26010XMNEVB evaluation board is a demonstration and development platform for the NCN26010 industrial Ethernet transceiver. NCN26010 is a 10Mb/s device conforming to IEEE 802.3cg standard, including a Media Access Controller (MAC), a PLCA coordination sublayer (RS) and a 10BASE-T1S PHY designed for industrial multipoint Ethernet.

The onsemi NCN26010XMNEVB Evaluation board is the demonstration and development platform for the NCN26010 Industrial Ethernet transceiver. NCN26010 A 10Mb/s IEEE 802.3CG-compliant device that includes a media access controller (MAC), a PLCA coordination sub-layer (RS), and a 10BASE-T1S PHY designed for industrial multipoint Ethernet.

The NCN26010 provides all the physical layer functions required to transmit and receive data over non-single shielded twisted pair cables. The Onson Semiconductor NCN26010 Industrial Ethernet transceiver communicates with the host MCU through the Open Alliance MACPHY SPI protocol.

The NCN26010XMNEVB evaluation board contains all the circuits required to enable the board to act as a 10BASE-T1S MACPHY node when connected to a host or microcontroller board via SPI. The evaluation board features a pre-installed NCN26010 and two RJ45 connectors for connecting twisted-pair data cables. For ease of use, the standard Cat5 Ethernet cable can be connected to the RJ45 connector.

The SPI connection is made using the RSL10 BDK-GEVK substrate through the Pmod connector on the NCN26010XMNEVB evaluation board. The evaluation board can also be connected to the Raspberry Pi single-board computer (SBC) using the NCN26010BMNEVB adapter board.

To monitor SPI traffic, the NCN26010XMNEVB evaluation board features a 0.1" spaced pin row for easy access. The connector can also be connected to logic analyzers for tracking SPI signals when used in conjunction with Raspberry Pi or any other suitable host MCU or SBC. Users can also use the connector to connect to host PCBS (third-party MCU evaluation boards) that do not provide Pmod connectors.
