Onsemi and Wurth Elektronik have jointly announced the incorporation of Wurth Elektronik's passive components database into onsemi’s unique Self-Service PLECS Model Generator (SSPMG). Engineers can generate custom high-fidelity, high-accuracy PLECS models of intricate power electronic applications using this user-friendly web-based platform. This facilitates the early identification and resolution of performance obstacles during the design process. The switching loss models derived from SSPMG are now even more precise than they were before, thanks to the inclusion of passive system components from Wurth Elektronik.
Typical industry PLECS models, based on laboratory configurations and surroundings, do not consistently represent the diverse conditions exhibited by component characteristics like as conduction, energy loss, and thermal impedance in practical applications. Conversely, SSPMG’s capabilities rely on onsemi’s physically scalable SPICE (Simulation Program with Integrated Circuit Emphasis) models, grounded in semiconductor physics and the inherent process variations in component fabrication, yielding a more precise depiction of their circuit behavior.
SSPMG enables onsemi clients to independently generate system-level PLECS models that are customized to their particular power application, as the company asserts. Customers can speed up the time to market by developing and optimizing their complete power systems virtually, rather than undergoing lengthy and expensive fabrication-based cycles.
As per Wurth Elektronik, the seamless integration of Wurth Elektronik's database of SPICE models into onsemi's SSPMG enables design engineers to select both the active onsemi components and the passive Wurth Elektronik components for their application, thereby generating a more precise switching loss model.
The SSPMG loss models can be downloaded and subsequently utilized on the proprietary simulation platforms of customers or uploaded into the industry-leading Elite Power Simulator (EPS) of onsemi. EPS offers customers direct insights into the performance of a circuit topology across onsemi’s EliteSiC family of products, including PowerTrench® T10 MOSFETs, Field Stop 7 (FS7) IGBTs, and IPMs.
