Onsemi and Wurth Elektronik announced that Wurth's passive component database has been integrated into ON's unique PLECS® Model Self Generation Tool (SSPMG). SSPMG is a web-based platform with an intuitive, easy-to-use interface that enables engineers to customize high-precision, high-fidelity PLECS models for complex power electronics applications to identify and fix performance bottlenecks early in the design process. The integration of passive system components from Wurth Electronics further improves the accuracy of the switching loss model in SSPMG.
The industry's typical PLECS model is dependent on laboratory configuration and environment, and often does not accurately reflect the reality of various component characteristics such as conduction, energy loss, and thermal impedance in real-world applications. In contrast, SSPMG's capabilities are based on ON's Physically scalable SPICE (simulation program focused on integrated circuits) model, which is rooted in semiconductor physics and actual process changes in component manufacturing to more accurately represent how a component behaves in a circuit.
Dr. James Victory, ON Power Solutions Business Group Modeling and Simulation Program Researcher, said: "By using SSPMG, On's customers are able to self-generate system-level PLECS models for their specific power applications, and instead of being subject to long and costly manufacturing cycles, complete power systems can be developed and optimized virtually, significantly reducing time to market."
Dayana Combita, European Strategic Partnership Manager at Wurth Electronics, said: "Wurth's SPICE model database has been seamlessly integrated into ON's SSPMG, and design engineers can now choose between ON's active components and Wurth's passive components for their applications, generating higher-precision switching loss models." By working together, we can create a path to a one-time success and optimized system design for our joint customers."
Customers can download SSPMG loss models for use in their proprietary simulation platform or upload them to ON's industry-leading Elite Power Simulation Tool (EPS). EPS enables customers to directly demonstrate the performance of ON's EliteSiC family of products, PowerTrench® T10 MOSFET, FS7 IGBT and Smart Power Module (IPM) devices to build circuit topologies.
