
Osram Opto Semiconductors, one of the world's leading manufacturers, has introduced the first UV-C LED Oslon UV 3636, marking the launch of OSram's comprehensive portfolio of UV-C leds. The coronavirus outbreak has been going on for almost a year, and it's unclear how much longer it will last, but the longer it goes on, the more important it is to stay safe and healthy in our daily lives. Hygiene measures taken by individuals, such as wearing masks or social distancing, can help prevent the spread of the virus, and for certain spatial ranges, the right wavelength of light can make a huge contribution to the fight against the virus. UV-C light can eliminate 99.9% of viruses and bacteria on the ground, in the air, and in drinking water. Today, OSram's UV-C LED Oslon UV 3636 products enable particularly small and powerful disinfection applications, while also advancing the industrialization of these special light sources.
UV-C light radiation can break the chemical bonds in the helix of a pathogen's RNA or DNA so that it can no longer reproduce and thus become harmless. UV-C light has been used for disinfection in the air or water sector for many years, but it is usually used with very large lamps based on traditional light technology and takes up a large space. One of the main advantages of modern LED-type UV-C solutions is the compact size of the light source, the smaller size makes it very space efficient, allowing the LED to be easily installed on the final application equipment, directly sterilized, such as significantly reducing bacteria in the faucet, sterilizing air before it enters the car through the car air conditioning system, etc.
Another advantage of the direct integration of the light source is that it can effectively prevent high-energy short-wave UV-C light from reaching the surrounding area, so it does not pose a danger to the human body. In addition, unlike traditional lighting technologies, leds are very rugged and insensitive to external shocks. As OSram's first UV-C LED, the Oslon UV 3636 is available in both low and medium power versions and features a compact size (3.6 mm x 3.6 mm). Both versions have a wavelength of 275nm, making them ideal for disinfection applications. The low-power version can reach 4.5mW@30mA, and the medium-power version can reach 42mW@350mA。

Oslon UV 3636 is the first innovative product in the UV-C range from OSram Opto Semiconductors.
