In the next few years, virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) applications will become more widespread. In games and many other areas, they already play an important role. Many users around the world already use this technology for training, or frequently for other daily workflows. As these apps become more integrated into our daily lives, some users experience discomfort and dizziness when virtual and real perceptions don't match. Osram's new Firefly SFH 4030 and SFH 4060 are advanced eye tracking solutions that provide targeted reference points to prevent these side effects and allow users to immerse themselves safely and comfortably in another world.
The eye tracking system records the user's eye Angle and their eye movements. The system uses infrared light to illuminate the eyes, and uses the camera sensor to record the light reflection of the eyeball, and determines the accurate position of the eyeball and the direction of the user's line of sight through the software to generate relevant information for the system screen display. The Firefly SFH 4030 and SFH 4060 are side light emitting devices with a small size of 1.0 mm x 0.325 mm and a height of only 0.55 mm for easy installation. Another feature is the black exterior design, which makes them "hidden" after integration.
Customers can choose between the 940nm version (SFH 4030) or the 850nm version (SFH 4060) depending on the needs of the target application. The image sensor has a higher sensitivity in the SFH4060 band range, while the SFH4030 avoids the unpleasant "red exposure" effect.
"In AR and VR applications, eye tracking is an intuitive way to interact with the human machine, showing important information about the object in focus," said Bianka Schnabel, Product manager, OSram Optical Semiconductors. "The IRED's two-band selection and black package provide customers with more choice while also simplifying system integration."
